This was a DIY installation. Installers who do many of these installations understand the issues with the installation manual and other tricks. These comments are for other DIYs who will install the lift themselves. Watch the installation video and follow their order, not the paper manual's order. The paper manual is missing steps and has you install parts in an incorrect sequence. I ordered a quick ship A/C unit. I decided on the A/C unit because it is installed in an unheated garage, is never used unattended, and I did not want to have to replace the batteries every couple of years. When moving the unit around laying down horizontally we slide the unit from the shipping pallet onto two moving dollies which worked very well for positioning the unit to get it ready to lift vertically. In the installation video, which features a DC unit, two men seem to easily stand the unit up from the shipping pallet. The batteries are removed from that unit. The A/C unit has a very heavy transformer mounted on the shelf where the batteries would go. This makes the unit extremely top heavy and probably heavier than the DC unit. Because of the transformer, it was not possible for two strong men to lift this vertically. We even tried four people but it was just not safe. I considered unbolting and removing the transformer, but the cabling was all tied down and I did not want to mess with this and then I would have to remount the heavy transformer while the lift was vertical. Ultimately I rented a material handler, which is basically a manually cranked cable fork lift. With this device and a car towing strap we were able to safely stand the unit vertically. Once vertical, it can slide on a cement floor but again it's so top heavy it takes a couple of people to do this. Final positioning can be done with a crow bar as seen in the installation video. Get the unit as close to the final destination as possible before you start assembly while it is lighter. I decided to use 5/8" cement wedges for the rear four mounts. Just a little extra holding power to the concrete slab. However you have to drill out the metal bracket slightly to get these to go through. It is not necessary to bend the arms on the contact switches for the safety pan as printed in the manual. I believe Ameriglide updated the contact switches and they are now mounted on a sliding bracket. Just loosen the screw and adjust the bracket to get the proper position. If the unit goes up but not down, check the cabling on the safety pan contact switches. A couple of these connectors came loose a few times. If just one switch is disconnected the unit will not move down. the first time this happened, it took me a while to figure out what the issue was.
